Hi everyone! I have a new time-lapse over on my Youtube channel!  This one was so fun to paint and came together so quickly, mainly due to the wonderful qualities of Uart Dark. My favorite paper to use for my pastel paintings, Uart is a wonderful support that allows me to play and experiment.  Usually, I’m working on their more “oatmeal” colored standard papers, but for this piece, I wanted to try something different!  You can watch it as a time-lapse by clicking here or if you’d like to join in over on my Patreon page, I have a longer and more detailed video with voice instructions included! My very simple palette helped me maintain color harmony throughout this scene.  The reference photo, a favorite area near Boston, MA, was simple and dark so I needed to add some color to liven it up!  I lived there years ago with my (then) young son and hubby.  We spent so much time in these woods and by these beautiful lakes…something I miss so much!

I couldn’t believe how fast this piece came together.  The Uart dark didn’t allow for me to do my usual alcohol wash underpainting, instead acting as the darkest value I usually like to add to my sanded papers.  I had to re-arrange my thinking and “pull out” this scene from the darkness….it was so fun to see it come alive!

I am painting live tomorrow on Youtube for my Patreon members!  If you haven’t joined yet, I’d love to see you there! 🙂

xoxo,

Bethany
