It’s my annual sharing of the bucket picture. When the man came into Mrs McGill’s third grade class and told everyone I had won the Halloween coloring contest, I had never been more proud. Then I got to go down to the Canyon Newspaper, stand on the bucket, and receive my medal. I have my very thick glasses in my hands (as I did for most of the 80s). I didn’t like them. Thank goodness for contacts! I still have the “painting” I made. It’s a scarecrow and a moon on black paper done with crayon. I remember buffing the gold crayon moon til it was shiny. 🌝

This is one of my favorites from a few years back. It sold and I wish I had held onto it. This was one of those magical pieces that flowed out as easily as breathing! Painted on Pastel Premier. Maybe I need to order some more from @dakotapastels 🙂

In this go go go world, it’s hard to remember to bring ourselves joy. I love to paint but it is not the only thing I am! Or the only thing you are! I feel like I haven’t taken care in this past year to fill my well with all 👏🏻of 👏🏻this 👏🏻 as much as possible.

I love to learn. I love to notice. I love to be around people even if I’m quiet. I am not nearly as extroverted as I seem. Sometimes the days are lonely.

But! I post this today to remind myself (and maybe you) that LIFE is out there. Remember what you love. Do more of it!!

I thought I would re-introduce myself. I’m Betha

I thought I would re-introduce myself. I’m Bethany and I love to paint my home of the high plains of the Llano Estacado. When I mention my home, many people have said “oh yes! I’ve driven through there!” (Usually on their way somewhere else).

When I first started my painting practice, I only wanted to paint things elsewhere, how could a flat formless land inspire a landscape painter? I’m so thankful my limited view expanded.

Looking closely has shown me a world of beauty that is incomparable. The majesty, the expanse, the colors, the little details of a quiet land. We are rugged and earthy and raw.

I still paint other places but this place will always call me home. It’s a place I can breathe. “Beautiful things don’t ask for attention.” - Walter Mitty
