Bethany Fields Unison Colour Artist

I should say something like Happy New Year!!! everyone (even though it’s almost February). January is always such a reset for me. After the long busy holiday season it’s a chance to take a break, reevaluate, take a deep breath, rest, pay taxes (blah), and do some soul searching.  Some years January is revitalizing, some years it is more quiet, this year it has been a bit less focused and then here we are and it’s January 25…time flies.

I’ve announced it on my Facebook page but also wanted to share my news here!  I am now an Associate Artist of Unison Colour!  Imagine my surprise and delight when I received this unexpected gift of an invitation from one of the premier pastel makers in the world!  Unison pastels are a staple in my studio and of course, I was thrilled when I got a chance to talk with them.

I’ve written about Unison Pastels before – (find my mention on my Resources page here). I find their story very romantic. The location of their studio is a dream to me – the beautiful English countryside of Northumberland. (Admittedly, I had to look up Northumberland on the map). My imagination wanders to all the beautiful literature, art, movies, music, and television that have come from this amazing isle. I’m sure it’s not quite the same in reality (much like living in Texas doesn’t always mean cowboys, boots, hats, horses and oil. Though where I live, that is exactly what it means to many…).

Unison Colour was founded by artist John Hersey after he found the pastels available to him unsatisfactory. His original color (colour 😉 ) range of pastels has grown by the hundreds…so many beautiful values in the collection. I find the Unison website informative and beautiful. Wonderful imagery and story.  You can find it here. Reading about this company, getting a feel for the people passionate about fine pastels, and seeing the beautiful vision they’ve created and maintained is so inspiring and makes me want to paint!  I’m very excited and proud to be associated with them.  To hear more of their story, watch the video below.  I think you’ll fall in love with Unison, too. <3

xoxo,

Bethany
