I just finished this pastel painting that a friend commissioned from me.  They were redecorating one of her daughter's bedrooms and she wanted a painting of a meadow or field where a horse could be happy.  After a couple of months of gathered inspiration (trips to fields, drives by fields, photographing fields, obsessing over fields), I painted this.  It was a nice diversion from the day-to-day around here.  I love doing commissions…they are freeing and also focused.  They force me to focus on the wishes of my client…these can be anything from emotional "wishes" to strictly "make it these colors please."  These "rules" (though that's really not the right word) cause me to make choices in my art that I might not normally make…but they always help me to grow as an artist.

So..this is for little A-L.  I hope this painting inspires her and helps her dream of happy days full of horse rides and sunshine, wildflowers and care-free days.
