So I've still been cleaning the house – I'm not out of our bedroom yet as it is slow going with a four year old, a one year old and a dog and a cat and a bird….yep – you heard me correctly…a bird.

We got him yesterday at a cool pet store here in town called "Texotic Pets" (no link or I would link it!).  We haven't named him yet but have thought of all sorts of names.  He is a bright yellow canary and oh so pretty.  The people at the store said he was male and since the only really good singing canaries are male – we hope that he tra lalalas for us for a long time.

We (or rather, I) come from a bird-lovin' family.  Not that Russell's family doesn't like birds…they just never had them.  We had a parakeet name "Happy Birthday" when I was a little girl and also a pigeon named "Harriet."  The pigeon was tame and stayed in a lobster crate that was stuck in the window in the garage.  My dad made a little tunnel to the outside that Harriet could crawl through and fly around…

Then when Russell and I were dating and in the early, early part of our marriage – we acquired FIVE parakeets.  Sylvester, Isabella, Kukiko, Rocky and Antonio.  They were great but after we got so many they kind of ganged up against us! ha!  We gave them to a woman who bred parakeets with the condition that they would be kept together and allowed to fly…we didn't want them caged all the time because they weren't used to it.

Now…we have little yellow birdie.  I think he'll be a good addition to the family.  He seems to like loud music and loudness in particular – so no problem there;  o ur house is plenty loud.  I always wanted a menagerie of animals and so adding him just fits.  (no way will I ever have a snake though!)  He is low-maintenance and isn't very trainable so won't take a lot of time.  He eats 1/2 tbs of birdseed a day and so won't eat us out of house and home.  He is flitting around and chirping right now.  Such a sweet comforting sound….

So..introducing…..no name birdie (for now anyway)

Did I mention how hard it is to get a good birdie picture?  They just fly around too much!
